John Passmore Edwards was a widely respected editor and benefactor in the late Victorian era who supported public buildings and libraries throughout the United Kingdom. St Bride Foundation owes him a special debt as it was with his help that the libraries of William Blades and Talbot Baines Reed were purchased when the printing school was being established. These books still represent a vital part of the St Bride Library collection on the history of printing.
On October 10th Dean Evans, author of Funding the Ladder, which describes the Passmore Edwards legacy, will give a talk on the life and work of this remarkable man. The talk will take place in our own Passmore Edwards room where there will be an introduction on the impact of this legacy on the Foundation and about the printing school and its building.
