The multi-disciplinary design studio, Kapitza will be joining us at St Bride to talk about their working processes and inspirations. They will discuss their profound fascination with fonts and where ideas for these are found and how they are subsequently pursued, developed and refined. Their extensive Geometric and Organic collections, for example, have been realised as published books that illustrate and explore the diversity of the font collection.
They will also share with us their experiences of the ins and outs of self-publishing, the creation of pattern fonts, how to start a font foundry, designing an app, book design and working with a worldwide audience.
Kapitza collaborate with a variety of international clients to create exhibitions and products featuring their distinctive artworks, such as stationery, canvasses, calendars, wall stickers and tiles, textiles and postage stamps.
Copies of their new self-published book Organic will be available to purchase at a special discount after the talk.
Kapitza is a multi-disciplinary design studio run by sisters Nicole and Petra Kapitza who share a passion for print, pattern, nature, minimalism and colour.
They have studied and worked both in Germany and London before setting up their own company, Kapitza, in 2004 with the intent to apply their broad experience in graphic design, book design, digital software and illustration exclusively to their own practice.
They work across a range of media, including non-alphanumeric fonts, i-pad apps and three-dimensional work. They collaborate with a variety of international clients to create exhibitions and products featuring their distinctive artworks, such as stationery, canvasses, calendars, wall stickers and tiles, textiles and postage stamps.
Their artworks are bright, colourful and minimalist, featuring abstract graphic art and flower illustrations in bold colour compositions and compelling arrangements.
Kapitza have gained a global following in the design world for their inspirational pattern art books and picture fonts, which are available from their beautifully designed online shop. They also published the critically acclaimed book Geometric in 2008. Their deep love of nature is an ongoing concern, as can be seen in the ever growing Font and illustration collection, ‘We Love Nature’ and in their new project, Organic.
Kapitza supersede commercial boundaries with their own mix of genuine curiosity and technical expertise.
