On Thursday 6 May 2004 a group of Library supporters and interested parties gathered at the St Bride Institute to celebrate the re-opening of the St Bride Printing Library. Peter Longland, Chairman of the Governors, gave a short introduction in which he discussed the decision that the St Bride Foundation has made to look after the Library and reminded everyone of the need to work hard to support it. Printing historian Nicolas Barker gave a short address in which he outlined the history of the Institute and its original purpose. He reminded guests to remember that the Library is a living institution rather than just a place to find records of the past. As such, it will continue to be a place where current and future innovation in the graphic arts, and not only printing, can be studied.
